USO Kaiserslautern Glow Stick Run
This year’s Halloween season was a busy one for USO Kaiserslautern. By helping out at a number of events in and around the Kaiserslautern Military Community, the USO was able to make Halloween 2017 a great one for everyone.
Beginning with the Glow Stick Run on Oct. 21st, USO volunteers were on site painting on zombie makeup and snapping fun photos of the runners. The next event on the Halloween itinerary for USO Kaiserslautern was the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center’s annual Spooktacular Event on Oct. 27th. While kids were trick or treating through the hospital and trunk or treating between buildings, USO volunteers were busy manning the canteen. Food, drinks, and free t-shirts were all up for grabs.
There was plenty going on on Halloween day, as well. The Ramstein USO held the “Military Monster Mash” at the Ramstein Passenger Terminal with a spooky good menu of holiday treats. Cobweb pasta, vampire repellent (also known as garlic bread to the day walkers), bloody finger hot dogs, jack-o-lantern clementines, and plenty of sweet treats.
USO Kaiserslautern was also present at Baumholder’s Trunk or Treat event on Halloween day, serving over 3,500 people. The canteen offered hot dogs and hot chocolate to worn out trunk or treaters in need of a pick-me-up.
Ending the Halloween season with a bang, the USO Kaiserslautern helped Kaiserslautern Middle School students get rid of those pesky leftover pumpkins with a lesson in physics. Nov. 1 was the school’s Pumpkin Drop, and USO volunteers kept spirits and energy high with popcorn and hot chocolate.
No matter the season, USO Kaiserslautern is ready to celebrate with the community and meet the needs of events big and small. This is just a small sampling of the Fall itinerary and there are plenty of awesome events still to come.
